Maya Angelou on Mandela: “He had enough courage to say… I am a person who dares to care for other human beings”

Maya Angelou is a woman I’ve always respected. It’s easy to forget the old school, think they have nothing left to offer in this new fast-paced technological age. But ignoring her, and those like her who’ve gone through the changes of the early part of the 20th century, would be unwise.

Maya Angelou is a poet, author and a civil rights pioneer. She wrote and recited a tribute to Nelson Mandela on behalf of the American people. It was posted online by the State Department. She has also known Mandela for decades and spoke to Anderson about his enduring impact.
